Two of the southern suburbs busiest train stations will receive multi-million dollar makeovers as part of the State Government’s on-going $2 billion investment in public transport infrastructure. Transport Minister, Patrick Conlon today released concept plans for the $8 million upgrade of the Hallett Cove and Hallett Cove Beach stations. “We expect to have contractors appointed to undertake the works on these stations during August this year, allowing for the upgrades to be completed by the end of the year,” he said. “The first component of track upgrade works on the Noarlunga line will also be initiated with some weekend and night works during this same period. “The upgrading of stations across the network is a key part of the unprecedented investment the Rann Government is making in our public transport system. “We’ll be starting with what are two of our busiest stations on the Noarlunga line and provide great improvements to the comfort, safety, amenity, security and accessibility of the facilities. “This is another step in the public transport revolution underway right across Adelaide and will be the first of a series of station upgrades we will undertake on the network. “In addition, we will be starting work to upgrade the Belair railway line at the end of the month and we are continuing a refurbishment program of TransAdelaide’s 3000 and 3100 class fleet, which includes the replacement of more than 900 windows.” Hallett Cove and Hallett Cove Beach are both among the twelve busiest stations on the Adelaide rail network and both have seen significant increase in patronage in recent years. Based on the successful recent upgrade of the Oaklands Station the upgrade of Hallett Cove and Hallett Cove Beach will include:
The provision of additional car parking at the stations will also be investigated. The upgrading of these stations forms part of the State Government’s $2 billion investment in public transport announced in last year’s State Budget. Over the next decade Adelaide’s public transport network will be transformed into a vibrant, state of the art and sustainable system, providing faster, cleaner, more frequent and efficient services for commuters.
