Funds to care for State's Heritage
3/11/2006

Environment and Conservation Minister, Gail Gago today announced funding of more than $244,000 for projects across the state to repair and restore heritage places.

“This year 54 projects will benefit from the funding through the 2006/07 Heritage Grants Program co-ordinated by the Department for Environment and Heritage,” Minister Gago said.

“These grants recognise and support the tremendous contribution made by the owners of our irreplaceable heritage places.

“They’ve been allocated to conservation and stabilisation works that will help keep those unique heritage places preserved for future generations.

“In many cases, the grants provide the incentive owners need to carry out the essential conservation of our heritage buildings, so it’s money well spent.

“We want this money to go where it will make the most difference to conserving the heritage significance of a place, particularly where there are extra costs to the owners or carers of that place because of the specialised nature of the work, or where the work will enhance its financial viability.

“Looking after our past is an investment in our future,” Minister Gago said.

“The grants are made available for between 25% and 75% of the cost of conservation work, generally up to a limit of $5,000.
